Behind the Flavour: How We Made the Creamiest Vegan Protein Yet

From the very start, our mission at FWD FRM has been simple: make a vegan protein you’d actually look forward to drinking. No powdery aftertaste. No gritty texture. No “let’s just chug this and get it over with.”

We wanted something smooth, creamy, and crave-worthy, and this time around, we weren’t just adding new flavours (which we are very excited about!) we were upgrading anything that needed it. Including our original Vanilla Bean protein.

What started as a plan to launch new flavours turned into a full-blown overhaul of the range. If it wasn’t 100 percent right, we went back to the drawing board. Over and over again. Six months later, with too many shaker cups to count and plenty of late-night test sessions, we finally got there.

 

Why Vegan Protein Needed an Upgrade

If you’ve ever had a bad experience with vegan protein, you know the deal:

  • Chalky and grainy texture
  • That earthy, “too natural” aftertaste
  • Sweeteners that just taste fake

We’ve tried them all, and we never found one we were truly excited to drink… and if we wouldn’t drink it daily, why would you? That’s why we pushed harder. Even the flavours we already loved, like Vanilla, got put back under the microscope. We tweaked, tested, and reworked until every single one of them had that next-level creaminess and balance.


The Flavour Journey

Warehouse nights became flavour labs. People who walked past, our taste-testers. Rows of shaker cups lined up, each with scribbles and notes. Some too sweet, some too bland, some almost there. Then slowly, it started to click. Each flavour got smoother, more balanced, more indulgent. We knew we’d nailed it when it wasn’t just “good for a vegan protein.” It was just absolutely incredible, like, how many scoops of this is acceptable to consume each day kind of good?!When we tasted the  final versions, from the new flavours to the refreshed classics, we knew this was the lineup we’d always wanted to make.


What Makes Them Different

Here’s what every flavour in the upgraded range has in common:

  • Actually creamy. No grit. No chalk. No weird mouthfeel.
  • Naturally balanced. Sweetened just enough without being overpowering.
  • Flavours you don’t expect. Not just the usual suspects, and even Vanilla got a glow-up.

They’re the kind of shakes you want to drink after training, blended into smoothies, mix in with your oats or yoghurt, or even just shaken with water. No disguising needed.


Why It Matters

This isn’t just about new flavours. It’s about raising the bar. If healthy choices taste amazing, you stick with them, and as coaches, we know, consistency always wins and it is what absolutely gets you the results. Cue the mission: Wellness made simple, results that stick.


For us, this feels like a turning point. Proof that plant-based protein doesn’t have to be a compromise. It can be indulgent, creamy, and something you look forward to every single day.
